Due to the current economic climate, HMRC is endeavouring more than ever to increase tax receipts. It collects data on businesses and individuals from a variety of sources and uses sophisticated analytical data systems to analyse this data.
Ashdown VAT Consultancy has experience in resolving disputes with HMRC on VAT matters, including resolution of disputes through the Tax Tribunal or Judicial Review. If you have received a notice of assessment, penalty or are otherwise being challenged by HMRC, we can help. We combine technical expertise and the experience necessary to help us resolve the issue, while maintaining a calm and reasonable atmosphere in discussions.
The first stage of the process is to gain an understanding of your organisation and how it works. We then look at how the legislation applies and investigate the basis for the assessment or penalty issued by HMRC. We may request a reconsideration of the case by HMRC, an appeal to the Tax Tribunal or through HMRC’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”) procedure.
We have used ADR to resolve tax issues for several clients. It has the advantage that it does not take place in public and if unsuccessful, it is still possible to appeal to the Tax Tribunal.
